Ok...the situation is thus. I recently played a point tournament which was the equivilent to a $10+1. Top ten get paid ($20 10th - $300 1st). 11 players left.
Myself and opponent (on other table) have equal stacks and coincidentally will be hit by the blinds about the same time. Blinds are 400/800, antes are 100. We are UTG with 1300 after paying ante.
I receive Kh5h and muck...obviously hoping that either that my counterpart (or anyturn opponent) will play this hand and bust...or get lucky enough to catch an Ace high/pair/whatever on my BB...knowing I will likely be moving in there.
As it turned out I caught a T9 on the BB and pushed my last 400 in calling a raise...falling to an AJ. I thought it was a no brainer...as I would be put in with my small blind.
I wasn't so much concerned about getting in the money as I was making the correct move. I had been shortstacked for so long and had so little, I believed playing the Kh5h was more likely to attract callers then push them away.
That King was the highest card I had seen in four rounds...although I had managed to steal two hands through feel...and luck.
Normally...if I make it that close to the final table(as opposed to crashing and burning early)...I have chips to work with, so this is kind of unfamiliar territory for me. The Kh5h hand got taken down preflop so I really have no idea how it would have done...but I am second guessing my decision. So is King high good enough to move in with...knowing the blinds will take me anyway...or does giving my opponents a chance to err and the possiblity of a better hand make more sense in this situation? |
