Concentrate that is. We all know the criticalness of being able to concentrate at the table during our sessions. My two questions are:
1. How long can you effectively concentrate?
2. What is the longest session you have played at top form?
I was blessed with the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time. I have known this since I was very young. As in all things, if I am uninterested in the topic or bored, my mind is free to drift. I might go as far to say that I can out daydream the best of them. rolleyes However, when I want or need to, my mind is sharp and focused, and distractions fail to penetrate. This was certainly an advantage in Graduate School.
The longest single session I have played at top form is 16 hours. My only breaks were for the restroom. |

Hehe, I manage a good two hours on reasonable form. However, the average mind can only truly focus for short periods such as 30 minutes. After that, the mind wanders, you think of other things, count ceiling tiles and so forth.
Some people can stay on track better than others, but I hear 30 minutes quoted a lot. That's why over here they shorten class lengths in schools as it's deemed better to have full attention for 30 minutes than 1/3 attention over the course of an hour.
I would say play would be best done in 40 minute bursts, although this might upset players if you want to take a break midgame to let your mind settle again! |
