Ok you've got T9s and you limp in its 3 handed. Flop comes 983. You check, 1person bets 2BB(4chips) to you. Do you raise? I check-raised in this spot to 8, then got reraised for 8more... Now what?? I folded here later found out he had 8-3.

Another example: holding A9o, raise it 3BB (6chips), called by two people. Flop comes A K J. I check, bet to 5, I raise to 10, get re-raised to 15... I figure my top pair is no good and fold. Never did find out what he had. Keep in mind both these players almost never will re-raise w/out the good they are not that advanced.

How aggressive should you be w/ top pair?

First situation I think you should have called. It is impossible for you to be behind unless the flop was all of one suit. You have 3 nines and plenty of outs to make a full-house.

The best your opponent could have is a draw hand our two pair.

Second situation, is not as cut and dry. There is a possiblity you were no longer in the drivers seat. If you are dealing with people that only call when they have good hands, your fold was probably okay. With multiple good players calling, you have to put them on a solid pair with lots of outs including a high straight or even three of a kind. I don't know about the second situation, I'm not that good a player.

the flop only had one 9, for some reason i thought i saw two at first too lol.

Anyways from your 2nd example it sounds like you raised with A-9 preflop in early position. Since after the flop you checked, then someone bet, then you raised.

I don't like the raise with A-9 from early on because what CAN happen just did happen to you. You raise with it, then after the flop you hit...but you dont know if your 9 kicker is going to hold up. So either you have to call some bets and hope it does (there is a good chance it wont if tight players are re-raising) or fold and lose the money you bet that you shouldn't have

Fist situation I think you should have lead the betting. you had top pair and a back door straight draw but not enough to slow play or check raise. You could of folded the hand for a smaller loss once you were reraised. The second situation was in my opinion a poor raise you were only ever going to be called by better hands ands and with the flop you got you had to fold.

Here is the way I look at it. You limp in with 10 9 suited... What are you trying to catch? You are looking for the straight or flush.....thats it....fold if you don't catch that and save alot of money.

I would have said fold on the first account, and you were probably right to fold on the second account too.

With a pair of 9's you're hardly looking at a huge hand and a raise of that amount is probably just throwing chips away.

Second time, you're looking at catching the straight or flush as ballen said, anything else drops on the turn and the river and you're buggered.
