This is a hand which came up last night and I was wondering what you guys thought about how I played it.

$.05 $.10 NL $20 max buy in.

Dealt to Stealthy Kc Js

I am on the button and 5 players limp to me I call as do both blinds.

Flop 4c 8c 10c

SB checks

BB who is a tight player bets $1.50 and knowing his play as I do he either has a weak flush and is trying to push out higher flush draws or a 2 pair.

Next player folds, MP player calls $1.50, LP calls $1.50 and as I now have the odds I also call with my King clubs.

Turn 4c 8c 10c (Qc)

And I have made a king high flush.

4 players left in before betting.

BB bets $2, again as I have played alot with this player he is trying to find out where he is at. He hates letting good hands go but will do when he knows he is beat.

MP player folds

LP player raises $5 to $7.

This late position player has been playing aggressively all evening but not manically. He and I are the 2 biggest stacks at the table. I have $45 and he has me covered with $52.

My considerations at this point were that despite his aggressive tendancies he surely could not re-raise that board without either a high club in his hand or maybe even the straight flush. The straight flush seems less likely as would have been better off calling the bet to induce another bet at the river.

I beleive that unless he is bluffing he cannot make this raise without the Ace or king of clubs, and as I have the king I fear that he has the ace.

Another consideration was his stack size, I would have to re-raise him if I want to stay with the pot, probably another $5 or so. Calling is clearly not an option. If I raise him and he bets into me on the river I may have to call the bet down because the pot would have gotten so big. If he does have the ace then it could cost me my entire stack to find that out. An allin river bet in this senario would lay me odds of close to 2:1 on my money for the call.

He was aggressive enough generally that if I had come over the top of him and he had pushed allin he could still have been playing with a lower club, perhaps a bare Jack giving him one out to a straight flush. I still couldn't have been certain that I was beat.

The $48 stack I started the hand with represents my entire profit from a 2 hour session and I would find it tough to take if I do end up with all my chips in the middle only for him to flip up the Ace of clubs.

After 25 of my 30 seconds allowed to decide I folded my king high flush.

Would anyone else have played it any differently?

I don't see a problem in the way you played your hand. But I'm always cautious when there are 4 cards to a flush on the board and I don't have the ace. You just have to make the right read and know your players. Alot of players fall in love with that high card and don't even pay attention to the suits and kickers only to end up making a bullshit flush or straight. But that's poker. Don't take the beat too serosuly, there'll always be another poker game.
