First off, did I kill the NLHE thread section? Yeesh, last three topics are MINE and responses... come on people make me feel like I'm not alone here in my struggle to master this game of poker;)
Playing a small buy in tournament with some friends around the kitchen table, there's an anonymous player that I've never met before whose catching a lot of cards and playing ATC. I was just waiting to double my chips through him when this hand came up. I had J/Qo one off the button and we're 6 handed. Blinds are T2/4 and we all have about T100 in chips. All fold to me and I go ahead and make it T14. Anonymous calls and we take a flop heads up : K,Q,10 rainbow giving me middle pair and an open ended straight draw. He checks, I bet T25 into the T26 pot. He calls. Turns a blank, he checks to me - I go all in almost instantly. Now here's the point of this post, he thinks about it for a second and then finally asks me, 'If I fold will you show?'
What's your reply?
Do you just say yes? Do you think you're in the lead? Why would he ask that question? |

| He sound like he'd call with any K or Q so he probaby had a J or 10. I'd just smile and show him the J when he folds so he'll still double you up later. By asking that he's trying to give himself a reason to call by acting like he picked up a tell, bad players look for a reason to call. |

Agreed - Say sure, show him the Jack and give him a wry smile. That will leave him guessing, though he will assume you had a 9 or an Ace, or rather, he will hope that was your other card
Never say no to a free pot! |

I'd say, he's bluffing. It's important not to give too much away under any circumstances whether he promises on his dogs life or not that he will fold if you tell him.
Sure, drop the hint that you're holding a Jack... but I would give him that hint whether I was or not in that situation!
Then again, if a free pot is going, take it - just be careful as you are right, he's either overly friendly and a man of honour, or some jerk trying to get one over on you in the mind-play department. |
